Introduction

The recognized building known as Government College for Women, Baghbanpura, is located in the north-east block of Lahore. It has immense importance for the people of Shalimar Town and its vicinity who are inclined to provide personal and educational grooming to their daughters.
The Government Graduate College for Women, Baghbanpura, was established in 1963 in a rental building. In the beginning, Intermediate level was introduced. At initial stage, there were only 150 students. In 1967, Higher Education Department acquired a building consisting of 33 canals 9 marlas and college was shifted to that building promptly. In 1974, it was upgraded to Degree level. In the beginning of January 1995, the Education Department handed over a newly constructed block, comprised of 8 Rooms and 3 Laboratories, to the college administration. Later the college building consisted of 20 Class rooms, 8 Laboratories, 1 Library and 1 Hall. Moreover, the total strength of students is 3800.

Currently, the college faculty comprises of 85 teaching and 36 non-teaching staff. The ultimate goal of this institution is not only to fulfill the students' educational needs but also to make them a true, patriotic Pakistani. In this regard the accentuated aspect is their character building. Under the guidance and supervision of their teachers, the students try to adopt civil ethics, groom their personalities and follow the way to leading respectable lives.
Considering the needs of modern times, Computer Sciences classes were formally commenced in October,2000. The college computer lab is fully equipped and facilitated according to the needs of modern era. Owing to the best performance, this college was titled as “Model College" in 2002 and 2005.
On account of the increasing number of students and to meet their educational needs in 2016, a double storey new block with 12 rooms was constructed and handed over to the college management.
By the grace of Allah Almighty the BS4YDP (BS 4 year Degree Program) has been introduced in the college in academic year 2020-21. The college has been upgraded to (GGCWB) Govt Graduate College For Women, Baghbanpura, Lahore.
